7 - countries houses

In the Vondelpark neighbourhood, located on Roemer Visscherstraat, is a remarkable series of seven houses, known as the 7-country houses. Built in 1894, these houses display an intriguing diversity in architecture. Currently, these properties are used as both residential and office spaces. Architect Tjeerd Kuipers was commissioned by banker Sam van Eeghen to realise this unique project. Each house in this series embodies its own style, with a harmonious fusion of various architectural influences, following the principles of eclecticism.

The exploration of this architectural diversity begins at number 20, where the elegant German architectural style with ornate pointed arch windows shines as an exponent of craftsmanship.

A step further, at number 22, we find the rich French heritage, clearly inspired by the style of a Loire castle.

At number 24, we are welcomed by the exotic allure of Spain. Here rises a villa that embraces the architectural style of Granada, infused with Moorish influences that result in a breathtaking design.

The transition to number 26 reveals a tribute to the Italian empire. A palace in the classic Italian style, known as a Palazzo.

After the Italian design, we leap to number 28, where unmistakable Russia greets us. Here rises a cathedral with a distinctive onion-shaped dome, an icon in Russian Orthodox architecture.

At number 30, we find a subtle homage to the Netherlands, with a residential house embracing the Renaissance style, as an ode to our own cultural heritage.

Last but not least, at number 30A, we are welcomed to charming England. Here, a stately home is expressed in the typical English cottage style, as a quaint addition to this remarkable series of properties.
