On the Albert Cuyp market stands the monument to one of the most iconic Dutch folk singers of all time: André Hazes. This typical Amsterdammer was a frequent visitor to the market. From 1957, Hazes earned a little extra by lending his voice to the Albert Cuyp market. In addition, he could often be found in the neighbourhood's cosy brown pubs. The monument was erected in his memory in 2005, after he passed away in 2004.
