Anne Frank Statue

Perhaps you wouldn't expect this statue here, yet it has an important place in Anne Frank's life. Prior to going into hiding in the world-famous Secret Annex, Anne lived on Merwedeplein with her family. When you look at the sculpture, you can see Anne taking one last look at her house before she leaves, packed and dressed, for her new hiding place. The sculpture, created by Jet Schepp, did not initially receive too much support from the municipality. Therefore, it was only unveiled in 2004 by Mayor Job Cohen. Remarkably, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, you can find a replica of this statue on the Koningin van Hollandplein. Anne Frank's story is perhaps one of the most famous war stories ever told. Her world-famous diary contributed greatly to detailing the period she spent in hiding in the Secret Annex.
