Bobby Haarms

Bobby Haarms was born on March 8, 1934, on Middenweg in Amsterdam, directly opposite the then-under-construction De Meer stadium. His connection with Ajax began early; at age 13, he became a member of the club. In 1952, he debuted in the first team, eventually playing 58 matches and scoring once. A knee injury forced him to end his playing career in 1960.

After his active career, Haarms remained associated with Ajax. In 1967, Rinus Michels brought him back as assistant coach. He was known for his intensive rehabilitation training for injured players, earning him the nickname 'The Good Executioner.' His approach was strict but always prioritized the player's well-being.

Haarms was more than a coach; he was a confidant for players and a pillar within the club. He served Ajax in various roles, including two stints as interim head coach. In 2000, he retired as assistant coach but remained active within the club. On June 6, 2009, Bobby Haarms passed away at the age of 75. His legacy lives on in the hearts of Ajax supporters in the statue here that honors his memory.
