Brewery het Ij

Amsterdam-based Brouwerij 't IJ is a popular destination for beer lovers. Founded in 1983 by Kaspar Peterson, former member of the Dutch band Door Mekaar, he decided to turn his attention to brewing beer. Since 1985, Brewery 't IJ has found its home in the former bathhouse Funen, next to the characteristic Molen de Gooyer. This location perfectly reflects the brewery's rich history and craftsmanship.

The brewery is known for its traditional Dutch craftsmanship, recognisable by its characteristic and distinctive branding. The first beers they produced, Zatte and Natte, have since earned a special place. But especially their Ijwit, a refreshing wheat beer with a hint of citrus, has captured the hearts of beer lovers in the Netherlands and is now widely consumed.

Remarkably, Ijwit was the last beer that founder Kasper wanted to brew. He saw it as a summer beer, a finale, before selling the brewery. However, the beer has now achieved national success and is enjoyed by many.

Located within the historic walls of the "De Gooyer" windmill, the brewery has developed into an essential destination for locals and international visitors alike. At Brouwerij 't IJ, you can enjoy several beers straight from the tap, allowing visitors to indulge their taste buds with an array of sophisticated brews. However, the experience extends beyond beer. An on-site restaurant adds a culinary dimension, allowing guests to enjoy tasty Amsterdam snacks.
