Conservatory

An impressive feat of architecture, the Conservatorium Hotel occupies a prominent place within the museum quarter as one of the city's most exclusive and expensive hotels. Remarkably, the building, designed by Daniel Knuttel, once changed hands for the modest sum of about €54,600. Originally, it functioned as the headquarters of the Nederlandse Rijkspostspaarbank, a financial institution for savers.

In 1978, the Municipality of Amsterdam acquired the building, which later housed the Sweelinck Conservatory. This added a musical element to its rich cultural surroundings. Together with the nearby Concertgebouw, the Conservatory became a place where both visual arts and music flourished.

In 2008, the hotel was taken over by The Set Hotels, which was dedicated to preserving its opulent history. The Conservatorium Hotel now stands out as one of Amsterdam's premier establishments, with several high-end restaurants, including the renowned Taiko, the Tunes Bar, a lounge and the sprawling 1,000-square-metre Holistic Wellbeing Centre Akasha. However, this exceptional experience comes at a price, with room rates starting at €1000 per night.
