De Ceuvel

De Ceuvel is a unique and sustainable living and working community located on a former shipyard in Amsterdam. This innovative project was launched in 2014 as a collaboration between local businesses, artists and designers. Located on the banks of the Johan van Hasselt Canal in Amsterdam North, the site offers a peaceful environment for residents and an inspiring experience for visitors.

The core of De Ceuvel consists of small, eco-friendly houses built with sustainable materials and equipped with advanced technologies such as solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems. What makes these houses extra special is that they are built on floating foundations. This ensures that they can adapt to any increases in water levels due to climate change. The concept of "upcycling" is a central element at De Ceuvel. Old houseboats that had once served their purpose were transformed into creative and sustainable workspaces. This not only as a sustainable solution, but also as a tribute to the site's maritime past. De Ceuvel offers not only an inspiring example of sustainable living and working, but also a thriving community. 

Several small businesses, such as a café, a co-working space and a workshop, have set up shop here. This gives the community a dynamic and vibrant atmosphere. Besides providing a wonderful example of a sustainable community, De Ceuvel regularly organises events, workshops and cultural activities. This creates a strong commitment to the local community and promotes the exchange of ideas and knowledge about sustainability.
