House of Bartolotti

Welcome to House Bartolotti, one of the most beautiful merchant houses in Amsterdam, located to the right of number 170. This house was designed by the city architect Hendrick De Keyser and built in 1617, commissioned by Willem van den Heuvel. Van den Heuvel inherited the money to finance this house from his uncle Giovanni Bartolotti. After its construction, Van den Heuvel decided to change his name to that of his testator and henceforth had himself called Guillermo Bartalotti. This successful silk merchant and banker from Bologna was known as one of the richest men in Amsterdam in his time.

The house is not only breathtaking from the outside, but the interior is also impressive. One of the rooms, the back room, has a beautiful ceiling painting that is definitely worth a visit. The house is museum-worthy both inside and out and is an absolute must-see when in Amsterdam.
