Jaap Eden Ice Rink

The ice skating rink known as the Jaap Eden IJsbaan is located in Amsterdam. The name is a tribute to Dutch speed skater and track cyclist, Jaap Eden, who remarkably became world champion in both speed skating and track cycling at the age of just twenty-one. His triumphs made him a true national sports hero in the Netherlands, with numerous companies trying to hitch a ride on his popularity, ranging from cigars to chocolate and gin, all associated with his name. At the time, Eden reportedly earned an impressive 40,000 guilders a year, a considerable fortune for the time. The ice rink, which opened its doors in 1972, is located in the eastern part of the city and enjoys great popularity as a venue for ice hockey and skating. Over the years, the Jaap Eden Ice Rink has undergone several renovations aimed at modernising facilities and optimising the visitor experience. Besides its ice rinks, the complex also houses a café and a fitness centre, making it a versatile place for both sporting activities and moments of relaxation.
