Johan Cruijff Arena

The Johan Cruyff Arena, formerly known as the Amsterdam Arena, is the largest football stadium in the Netherlands and is located in the southeastern part of Amsterdam. Since its grand opening on August 14, 1996, the stadium has been home to AFC Ajax and the Dutch national team. The opening event featured a performance by Trijntje Oosterhuis and a friendly match between Ajax and AC Milan.

Before moving to the Arena, Ajax played its home matches at De Meer Stadion in the Watergraafsmeer district. This venue served the club for over six decades, from 1934 to 1996. For larger European matches, Ajax occasionally used the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam due to its higher capacity.

The stadium was renamed in 2018 in honor of Johan Cruyff, one of the greatest footballers in history. With seating for 55,865 spectators during matches and up to 71,000 for concerts, it remains a multifunctional venue. Its retractable roof, the first of its kind in Europe, allows events to take place in any weather.

Over the years, the Johan Cruyff Arena has hosted numerous major events, including the 1998 UEFA Champions League final and games during Euro 2000 and Euro 2020. It's also a popular concert venue, with artists like Madonna and Coldplay performing there. In 2025, shows by Kendrick Lama and the Verknipt dance event are scheduled.
