Monument to the Women of Ravensbrück

A monument on Museum Square is a powerful symbol for the victims of the Ravensbrük female concentration camp. Ravensbrük was a female internment camp 50 kilometres north of Berlin. Over time, it developed into an extermination camp to which more and more men and children were later taken. This memorial also carries meaning for those who endured the harsh conditions, often together with their children. This impressive memorial bears the inscription: 'For her who continued to say No to Fascism to the extreme'. It is a tribute to the 90,000 women and 20,000 men who lost their lives during the horrific period from 1939 to 1945. Every year on 13 April, the liberation of the concentration camp is commemorated. The perished women are honoured with light and sound, with the extinguishing light being a symbol of respect and remembrance.
