Oedipus Brewery

Oedipus is an Amsterdam-based brewery that opened its doors in 2013. Its founding came from the inspiration of four friends who were ignited by the craft beer movement and determined to create unique and innovative beers. Since its inception, Oedipus has established itself as a leading and esteemed brewery in the Netherlands, with a dedicated bevy of beer lovers both nationally and internationally.

Oedipus found its origins with four close friends: Alex, Paul, Sander and Rick. These four comrades shared a workplace at the Beertemple, an Amsterdam drinking establishment dedicated entirely to American beers. Their thirst for more caused them to start experimenting in their own kitchens, trying to emulate the taste of these American beers. Their very first trial brews were joyfully shared within their circle of friends and family. To introduce the Netherlands to the flavourful world of Oedipus beer, the team soon realised that festivals were the most appropriate venues. They towed their modest brewing equipment with them, allowing people to witness the brewing process on the spot. 

However, a need soon arose for a more stable environment where they could share their brews. They wanted their own brewing venue, a place where beer lovers could not only taste, but also have the space to experiment. Although the first attempt, despite a successful crowdfunding campaign, unfortunately failed, the company settled in Amsterdam-Noord in 2015. And to this day, they remain true to that location, but have expanded considerably. These days, Oedipus is part of Heineken and are mainly known for their beers, such as Men's Love, Thai Thai and Brewing Gaia.
