Welcome to the enchanting Rembrandthuis, once the home of renowned painter Rembrandt van Rijn. Before taking up residence in this historic building on Jodenbreestraat 4, he stayed as a boarder with art dealer Hendrick Uylenburgh, just a stone's throw away. Between 1639 and 1658, this house was his refuge, where he not only lived but also ran his own studio and art business.

Step inside and be transported back to Rembrandt's time. The Rembrandt House is not just a museum, but a reconstruction of the splendour of his original home. Here you will discover not only his masterful paintings, but also a wealth of other artworks, such as enchanting drawings and refined etchings. Delve deeper into Rembrandt's artistic process and marvel at the techniques he used to bring his masterpieces to life.

Today, this museum attracts more than 250,000 visitors a year, all of whom are enchanted by the unique insight it offers into the life and work of Rembrandt van Rijn. After his ill-fated bankruptcy in 1658, the house was sold for just 11,000 guilders.

Rembrandt was an artist with around 340 paintings to his name, most of which are abroad. In the Netherlands, we can enjoy 44 of these masterpieces, 22 of which can be admired in the magnificent Rijksmuseum. And there, as the crowning glory of his work, shines the Nachtwacht, his most valuable painting. A masterpiece estimated at a symbolic value of some 500 million euros. It remains remarkable that an artist with so much talent and magnificent works eventually went bankrupt.
