Sarphatipark

Along Ceintuurbaan, Sarphatipark stretches like a quiet green enclave in bustling Amsterdam. This park honours the influential figure Samuel Sarphati, whose contribution to the development of Amsterdam and the Netherlands cannot be underestimated. Sarphati's life story alone deserves much recognition, and an imposing monument in memory of this Jewish doctor adorns the park. A notable feature of Sarphati Park is the fact that it is lower than the surrounding neighbourhood, making it prone to flooding. Fortunately, the pumping station built in 1884 on the left side of the park, seen from Ceintuurbaan, provides an effective solution to manage this problem. This ensures a pleasant experience for park visitors without having to worry about wet feet. The park also has much to offer children, with an extensive playground and an adventurous climbing course, giving them countless hours to enjoy.
