Did you come to Amsterdam with the idea of spending the night in the Vondelpark? Probably not, but in the 1960s and 1970s, things looked very different. As Amsterdam became increasingly popular among young travellers, they started looking for affordable and alternative accommodation. Initially, they sought accommodation on Dam Square. But after a ban was imposed in 1970, young people flocked to the Vondelpark. Even airlines like KLM and PanAm jumped on the trend with the slogan: 'Fly with KLM, sleep in the Vondelpark'. Young people from all over the world flocked to this vibrant city. Amsterdam was and still is considered a place where everything is possible for many young people!
Nowadays, spending the night in Vondelpark is no longer allowed. Due to increasing crime and large amounts of trash that detracted from the beauty of the park, the municipality decided to ban it. However, if you still want to spend the night very close to the Vondelpark, you can stay at StayOkay on Zandpad 5, which overlooks the Vondelpark. Perhaps just as special and slightly more comfortable!
