The Bookshop

We are now standing in front of Boekhandel Jimmink on Rooseveltlaan 62, the place where Anne Frank received her famous red-and-white checked diary on June 12, 1942, for her thirteenth birthday. The day before, she came here with her father to choose a notebook herself. Back then it was called Boekhandel Blankevoort, but the shop still exists today — filled with the same quiet scent of paper, pens, and stories.

The current owner, Gert-Jan Jimmink, has continued that tradition and played a special role in the neighbourhood. He was the initiator of the bronze Anne Frank statue now standing on Merwedeplein. In this way, his shop and the monument remain deeply connected to her story in Amsterdam.
