The Museum Square

Museumplein is surrounded by prominent and renowned museums, making it the epicentre of Dutch art (history) and perhaps the most famous square in Amsterdam. At the beginning of Museumplein rises the Concertgebouw, above which rises a sophisticated golden lyre, a symbol borrowed from Greek antiquity. To the left, we find the Stedelijk Museum, as well as the Van Gogh Museum and the Moco Museum. Also, the Diamond Museum is located behind these buildings. On the right side are several businesses, including the consulate of both Turkey and the United States. Museumplein regularly serves as the stage for various demonstrations. Moreover, large-scale sporting events are celebrated there, such as the homage when Ajax becomes national champions. In the winter months, the square houses an atmospheric Christmas market and offers the possibility of ice skating.
