Amsterdam's largest and most valuable house is surprisingly not located in chic Amsterdam South or in the prestigious Golden Bend. The imposing property, called Villa Betty, has found its home on the Overtoom at number 241, in bustling Amsterdam West. This beautiful residence, hidden behind contemporary Amsterdam houses, is marked by a majestic gate that marks the entrance to this accommodation.

The name 'Villa Betty' has historical roots and is a tribute to the wife of Eduard Lehmann, a prominent tobacco trader. And yes, the Lehmann name may evoke some recognition. The infamous Lehman Brothers, founded by members of the American Lehman family, had a significant role in the 2008 financial meltdown, which became known worldwide as the credit crunch. 

Back to Villa Betty itself. This prestigious home stretches over almost an entire acre of private land and offers no less than 20 luxurious rooms. Within its sprawling confines is not only a beautiful residence, but also a tennis court, a stately carriage house and a picturesque pond that adds to the grandeur of the estate.

The current owner of Villa Betty is real estate broker Nicolaas Sandmann, whose rule over this extraordinary piece of property is testament to his influence and commitment to the Amsterdam real estate market. The house has even attracted the attention of media tycoon John de Mol, who made an offer of 34 million for the property several years ago. However, the request was refused by Sandmann, who firmly stated that he would not sell the villa, even for an enticing 100 million.
