De Koninck Antwerp City Brewery

The De Koninck Brewery in Antwerp began in 1833 by producing just one beer, but today it offers a wide range of products. It now serves not only as a brewery but also as a bar and an event space for visitors.

In the mid-19th century, the brewery gained fame for its flagship beer, De Koninck. This beer was brewed with local ingredients and aged in oak casks, a traditional Belgian brewing method. The building itself is even older than the brewery. It was once an inn called De Plaisante Hof, or “The Merry Garden.” The inn stood on the edge of Antwerp, directly opposite a notorious medieval gallows field—now the site of King Albert Park.

Nearly 200 years later, the brewery is still in operation, though it has changed ownership and been renovated several times over the years. Today, De Koninck offers interactive tours, monthly tasting events, private hire for functions, and its own gift shop.
