Museum aan de Stroom

The Museum aan de Stroom, often shortened to MAS, is an iconic example of modern architecture on the banks of the river Scheldt in Antwerp. Designed by the architectural firm Neutelings Riedijk, it is built from Indian red sandstone and curved glass. At 60 meters high, it is the largest museum in Antwerp.

The idea for the museum originated in 1998, but construction did not begin until 2006. Five years later, in May 2011, the MAS opened its doors to the public. Unlike museums that focus on a single theme, such as the Red Star Line Museum or the Plantin-Moretus Museum, the MAS celebrates the city of Antwerp in all its aspects. Its exhibitions and collections highlight the art, culture, and history of the city and its people.

Visitors can not only explore the diverse collections but also access the rooftop for a breathtaking view of Antwerp and the Scheldt. Although it is a relatively young museum, it is already considered a must-visit for anyone exploring the city.
