Rivierenhof

In the middle of busy Antwerp lies a green oasis of peace: Rivierenhof. This 135-hectare park is not only a place to relax but also a piece of history that shows how important nature and heritage are to the city.

The story of Rivierenhof dates back to the 16th century when the area consisted of two separate estates: Te Rivieren and Sterckshof. Over the centuries, the estate changed hands several times, with each owner leaving their own mark on the landscape.

In 1921, the province decided to open the park to the public, making it the first provincial park in Belgium. Despite challenges such as nearby highway construction and the addition of sports facilities, the park has retained its greenery and tranquil atmosphere.

Rivierenhof is best known for its two castles. Sterckshof has a medieval look with brick walls and a moat, while Rivierenhof Castle has colorful façades and a more elegant style. Today, the latter serves as a restaurant where you can enjoy a meal with a view of the park.

The park offers something for everyone: a rose garden, a fairy tale house, a traffic garden, and a petting zoo. Fitness lovers can use the 10-kilometer running track, while culture enthusiasts can enjoy events such as medieval fairs and art exhibitions.
