The Eleventh Commandment

You might have already guessed it: Mary is Antwerp’s patron saint. If not, you’ll know for sure after a visit to Het Elfde Gebod. This iconic café, right next to the cathedral, is filled from floor to ceiling with saint statues. Everywhere you look: Marys, angels, and biblical scenes.

It feels like a church where you can also enjoy a good beer. The name is a wink: the eleventh commandment might as well be “Thou shalt enjoy.” And here, you certainly will. with Mary in view and a fresh pint in hand.
