Garden of the World

If you want to travel the world without leaving Berlin, the Gärten der Welt is the perfect destination. This extraordinary park in the city’s east opened in 1987 as a counterpart to the Britzer Garten in the west. Both gardens were part of Berlin’s 750th anniversary celebrations. Gärten der Welt features themed gardens, each inspired by a different country.

You can move from the serenity of the Oriental Garden to the tropical atmosphere of Bali, from the classical elegance of Italy to the intricate details of the Japanese and Korean gardens. One of the highlights is the Chinese Garden, rich in cultural symbolism and striking design. The park is not just about plants – it blends art and architecture from each region, creating a unique harmony of nature and culture.

Nearby on the Kienberg, a 100-meter hill, stands the Wolkenhain, a cloud-like viewing platform built in 2017 for the International Garden Exhibition. This 20-meter-high steel structure offers breathtaking views over the park and the city, accessible by stairs or elevator. For an even higher perspective, take the cable car across the gardens – and if you’re lucky, you’ll ride in one of the cabins with a glass floor, giving you a thrilling look straight down into the gardens.
