Göring Train

You are standing at the imperial station in Potsdam Park Sanssouci, where during World War II Hermann Göring’s private train arrived. Known variously as Asien and later Pommern 1, this train was specially outfitted for Göring, Reichsmarschall of the Luftwaffe. The train typically consisted of fifteen to twenty-one carriages, including luxury salon cars, conference and dining cars. Special staff managed operations under strict protocols.

His personal family car, number 10205, featured sleeping quarters and a library. Beyond luxury, security was extensive: flak guns mounted at both ends, buffer cars for collision protection, and generator cars for independent power.

The train was often parked near Potsdam’s Wildpark, close to the Luftwaffe command center. Göring used it for state visits to his headquarters in East Prussia and for oversight trips in occupied territories. Art looting and political dealings sometimes took place aboard. After 1945, the train fell into occupying control and eventually faded from public memory.
