The Pier

Welcome to the Pier in Scheveningen, a unique spot by the sea where you can walk, dine, and enjoy stunning views of the coastline. But did you know the Pier’s history dates back to World War II? Before the current structure, there was a wooden pier near the Kurhaus called the Queen Wilhelmina Promenade Pier. During the war, the Germans used it as a strategic location. In 1943, the pier burned down completely, and the remaining parts were demolished by the Germans to prevent Allied landings. The current Pier was built in 1959 to promote Scheveningen as a seaside resort. It features several “peninsulas” connected by bridges, offering beautiful views from various points like the North and South Islands. After years of popularity, the Pier fell into disrepair and closed in the 1990s. But in 2015, it was beautifully restored and reopened. Over time, the Pier has hosted many attractions—from nightclubs to hotel plans. Today, it’s a place for fun and relaxation. There are restaurants with sea views, luxury suites where you can spend the night right over the water, the iconic Ferris wheel, and for thrill-seekers: a bungy jump platform at the side of the Pier.
