Arsenal FC

This is one of the world's most iconic football clubs that began not on a grand pitch, but inside an armaments factory in Woolwich. In 1886, a group of workers at the Royal Arsenal munitions factory formed a team they called Dial Square, named after the sundial above the workshop entrance where they crafted weapons and cannons. Their first match happened on December 11, 1886, on a muddy field at the Isle of Dogs. 

They beat Eastern Wanderers 6 to 0. Just two weeks later, on Christmas Day, the workers renamed their team Royal Arsenal, proudly linking it to the factory that employed them. These men who built artillery for the British Empire were creating something entirely different: a football legacy. In 1893, Arsenal became the first club from southern England to join the Football League. 

Financial disaster nearly ended everything in 1910, but businessman Henry Norris saved the club. He made a bold decision in 1913 to move the team north of the river to Highbury, leaving Woolwich behind. This move sparked outrage and created an intense rivalry with Tottenham Hotspur that burns fiercely to this day. The nickname The Gunners honors those factory workers who started it all. Arsenal went on to win 13 league titles and a record 14 FA Cups, including an unbeaten season in 2003 to 2004.
