Arc de Triomphe

The Arc de Triomphe dominates the western end of the Champs‑Élysées, standing as a globally recognized symbol of French national pride. Commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 but completed over the course of three decades due to wars and budget constraints, the monumental arch was decorated in the 1830s with sculptures and inscriptions.

Measuring approximately 50 meters tall and spanning 45 meters wide, it serves as a tribute to French soldiers who fought in the Napoleonic Wars. Beneath the arch lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I, guarded by an eternal flame that burns day and night.
