Le Bataclan

On Boulevard Voltaire stands Le Bataclan, a theatre with a turbulent history spanning celebrated performances and tragedy in 2015. On 13 November 2015, terrorists opened fire on the audience.

The building, dating from 1864, originally functioned as a dance hall and music venue decorated in Chinoiserie style, hosting artists like The Cure, The Ramones and Oasis. That evening turned into horror as hundreds sought shelter on stage, in the rafters, and in restrooms.

French forces eventually ended the attack, but 90 people inside Le Bataclan lost their lives. Since then, the theatre has become a symbol of tragic loss and resilience.
