Mairie du XIVe Arrondissement

The town hall of the 14th arrondissement was built between 1852 and 1858 on the site of the former Petit‑Montrouge town hall. Its design follows a classical style with stone walls, Corinthian columns, and a modest tower.

From the outside it looks like a typical Parisian mairie, but inside there are details that make it special. The council and wedding halls are simple but feature three paintings by Maurice Chabas from 1889. Les Fiançailles, Le Repas de Noces, and La Famille depict scenes of 19th‑century Parisian family life.

They are little known because they are usually only seen during official ceremonies. Beneath the building lies a shelter from the late 1930s, built as protection against possible bombings in the tense years before World War II. In 1936, a modern annex was added, designed by Georges Sébille in the then‑new Art‑Deco style.
