Maison de la Photographie

You’re standing before the imposing façade of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie at 5‑7 Rue de Fourcy in the Marais, a center dedicated to contemporary photography. Housed in the restored Hôtel Hénault de Cantobre, the MEP opened in 1996 as an exhibition venue. Inside, visitors encounter a fusion of eighteenth‑century architecture and modern galleries, with a central courtyard offering tranquility.

Exhibitions feature work by internationally renowned photographers such as Robert Frank (The American) and Nobuyoshi Araki (Sentimental Journey), alongside contemporary visual innovators. In addition to rotating shows, the museum houses a specialized library with over 30,000 titles and a video archive with more than 750 films and documentaries on visual art.

The museum regularly offers workshops for amateurs and professionals and provides educational programs for schools. It is open from Wednesday through Sunday, with varying daily hours. Admission is €8 to €13. Metro stations Saint‑Paul, Pont‑Marie and Hôtel de Ville are nearby. The MEP blends visual excellence, cultural depth and architectural charm.
