Musée Gustave Moreau

You are now standing outside the Musée Gustave Moreau in the 9th arrondissement, at the former home-studio of Symbolist painter Gustave Moreau. The museum opened in 1903 and displays his original paintings, drawings, and personal items such as musical scores and sketchbooks.

The studio on the upper floor remains unchanged, including furniture and notes as Moreau left them. The museum is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00, except Tuesdays. Informational labels accompany each artwork, and audio guides are available in multiple languages.

Moreau’s students—including Matisse, Marquet, and Rouault—are documented in the exhibition, illustrating his influence on French Symbolism.
