Musée national des arts asiatiques Guimet 

The Musée national des Arts asiatiques – Guimet opened in Paris in 1889 and is dedicated to the arts and religions of Asia. It was founded by French industrialist and traveler Émile Guimet, who gathered an extraordinary collection during his journeys through Japan, China, India, and the Middle East.

The museum began in 1879 in Lyon and later moved to a specially designed neoclassical building on Place d’Iéna. Since then, it has become the largest collection of Asian art outside Asia, featuring works from India, China, Tibet, Southeast Asia, and the Himalayas. In the 1920s, it expanded further with pieces from the former Musée Indochinois at the Trocadéro.

Between 1996 and 2001, the museum underwent major renovations, introducing more light and open spaces. It also includes the Panthéon Bouddhique, a serene space with Japanese and Chinese religious art. Today, it serves as a unique bridge between Asian cultures and the French capital.
