Palais de Chaillot

Welcome to the Palais de Chaillot, located on Chaillot Hill directly facing the Eiffel Tower. Built for the 1937 World’s Fair, it replaced the older Palais du Trocadéro. Architects Léon Azéma, Jacques Carlu, and Louis‑Hippolyte Boileau designed two large, semi‑circular Art Deco wings, creating an open esplanade with one of the most stunning views in Paris.

The building holds remarkable history. In 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted here, giving the esplanade its name: the Square of Human Rights. From 1952 to 1959, it even served as NATO’s temporary headquarters.

Today it houses several museums, including the Musée de l’Homme and the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine, as well as a national theater. Yet the terraces and Trocadéro Gardens remain most famous as the place for an iconic view of the Eiffel Tower.
