Parc de Belleville

Parc de Belleville is situated on the Belleville hill in Paris’s 20th arrondissement, covering about 4.5 hectares. It was created only in 1988 by architect François Debulois and landscape designer Paul Brichet as part of urban renewal efforts in the 1980s. Remarkably, the park sits at around 108 meters elevation, with a nearly thirty‑metre high terrace offering panoramic views of Paris.

Right ahead of you lies the famous hillside and the terrace from which you can gaze across the city in all its glory. At the top, a small vineyard of pinot meunier and chardonnay recalls Belleville’s former wine‑growing past. Further down, terraced gardens, colorful flower beds, a long cascading waterfall and a public pond form a peaceful oasis in the city.

There is also an open‑air stage and a playground, popular with families and locals. The park is cherished by residents of Belleville and Ménilmontant, and draws people daily who come to picnic, read or simply enjoy the view. Standing on the viewpoint – the belvédère – you see the rooftops of Paris Montparnasse and the Eiffel Tower beyond, and feel exactly where you are: in a green sanctuary above the city.
