Parc des Buttes-Chaumont

Parc des Buttes-Chaumont is one of the most surprising green gems of Paris, located in the lively 19th arrondissement. This 25-hectare park opened in 1867 during the reign of Napoleon III, on the site of former gypsum quarries. What immediately stands out are the steep cliffs, the elegant suspension bridge, a hidden grotto, and an artificial lake.

Atop a rocky hill stands the Temple of the Sibyl, inspired by Roman architecture from Tivoli, offering a stunning view over the city. The park feels like an intimate landscape: winding paths lead past exotic trees, waterfalls, and quiet corners. You’ll find special trees like ginkgos and sequoias, and with some luck, even rare birds. By the water, Rosa Bonheur is a charming guinguette where you can enjoy a drink, and sometimes music and dancing.
