Square du Vert-Galant

You are now at the very tip of Île de la Cité in the idyllic Square du Vert-Galant, one of Paris’s most beloved parks. Here, surrounded by tall trees and greenery, you feel like you’re in a hidden paradise, far from the bustle of the city.

The park is named after Henri IV, the ‘old gallant’ famous for his many love affairs. His widow, Marie de’ Medici, had this spot created as a tribute to his romantic lifestyle. Square du Vert-Galant covers about 1,600 square meters and was named an Ecological Green Zone in 2007 due to its rich biodiversity.

As you enter the park, you see the statue of Henri IV. From the steps, you have views of the Seine and some of the most beautiful landmarks in Paris. You can sit here, have a picnic, go boating, or simply enjoy the view over the city. On sunny days, this park is the perfect place to soak up the Parisian atmosphere, just steps from the city’s most famous museums and Notre-Dame.
