Val-de-Grâce

--:--

Val-de-Grâce is a complex with both military and religious history. It was established in the seventeenth century by Anne of Austria to give thanks for the birth of Louis XIV. The first stone was laid in 1645 and construction was completed in 1667.

The Baroque church, designed by François Mansart, is notable for its dome and rich interior. Initially an abbey, it became a military hospital after the French Revolution, a function it still serves today.

The on-site museum covers the development of military medicine, with collections of instruments, uniforms, and documents. Val-de-Grâce is significant as both a medical center and a monument of architecture and history.
