Erasmus University

Erasmus University Rotterdam began in 1913 as the Netherlands School of Commerce. This private institution was founded in response to a growing demand for academically trained economists. In 1939, it was renamed the Netherlands School of Economics.

The major shift came in 1973, when it merged with the Rotterdam Medical Faculty. This union marked the birth of Erasmus University Rotterdam, named after the renowned Rotterdam-born humanist Desiderius Erasmus.

Today, the university has a strong international focus and is known for its programs in economics, business, medicine, and social sciences. With over 30,000 students, the Woudestein campus is a vibrant hub of learning and exchange.

More than just an academic institution, EUR is closely tied to the city and business community. Collaborations with civic organizations and innovative ventures make it a cornerstone of Rotterdam’s social landscape.
