Euromast

Rising 185 meters above the city, the Euromast is one of Rotterdam’s most striking landmarks. Built in 1960 for the Floriade, it quickly became an icon—and the tallest public observation tower in the Netherlands.

Architect Huig Maaskant took inspiration from a ship’s mast, reflected in the tower’s sleek shape and its “crow’s nest” restaurant and viewing deck. From the top, you can see far across the city and the harbor.

Its construction was remarkable: the restaurant was lifted to 100 meters in just five days. At 32 meters, a replica ship’s bridge was added, complete with charts and instruments, underscoring the nautical theme.

In 2013, the tower made headlines when three Australians broke a world record by sinking a basketball from 93 meters after 208 attempts.

The Euromast even features in Madurodam, the famous miniature city in The Hague—a tiny tribute to a towering achievement.
