Museumpark

Amid elegant villas and bold modern buildings lies a special park where art, nature, and history converge. Once the estate of the Van Hoboken family—who lived in the villa now home to the Natural History Museum—it was later redesigned by city architect Witteveen into the layout we see today.

Anthony van Hoboken, a powerful shipowner, acquired a large portion of the Dutch fleet at the end of the 18th century after the VOC collapsed. His legacy continues in this green space, now rich with cultural life.

What makes the park truly special is the rare concentration of museums within just 300 meters—home to one-fifth of the city's entire museum collection. Visitors can lose themselves among old masters, contemporary art, architecture, design, natural history, and personal stories. Highlights include Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, the stunning Depot, the dynamic Kunsthal, and the Nieuwe Instituut, as well as more intimate spaces like Huis Sonneveld and the Chabot Museum.
