The Essalam Mosque

--:--
--:--

In the Rotterdam district of Feijenoord, near the De Kuip football stadium, stands the Essalam Mosque: the largest mosque in the Netherlands. With a dome 25 meters high and minarets reaching 50 meters, the building is a striking local landmark. It was built for around 8 million euros. “Essalam” means peace, which is reflected in the mosque’s welcoming atmosphere. Designed by architect Wilfried van Winden, the mosque is inspired by the Medina concept—a nod to the Great Mosque of Medina. This gives it a distinct Islamic character. The Essalam Mosque is open daily to visitors of all backgrounds. Guided tours are available, and guests are asked to remove their shoes as a sign of respect for the sacred space.
