Wereldmuseum

Located along the scenic Veerhaven, the Wereldmuseum invites visitors to explore cultures from across the globe. Its collection includes ethnographic objects from Asia, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas, with a particular focus on Islamic heritage. The museum offers a rich and thoughtful perspective on both historical and contemporary world cultures.

The building itself has a storied past. Originally the clubhouse of the Royal Yacht Club—founded in 1851 and opened by King William III—it was transformed into a municipal museum in 1885. First known as the Museum of Ethnology, it later became the Wereldmuseum.

In addition to its permanent collection, the museum hosts rotating exhibitions that connect current and historical themes. Until 2017, it also housed the acclaimed Restaurant Wereldmuseum, which earned a Michelin star in 2014 under chef Wim Severein.
