City beaches in Utrecht

In Utrecht, you don't have to travel to the coast for a day at the 'beach'. The city is known for its attractive city beaches, ideal for a day of relaxation. Thanks to the many waterways that surround and cross Utrecht, there are several places in the city where you can have a great time.

One of the most popular locations is Strand Oog in Al, better known as SOIA, beautifully located at the intersection of the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal and the Merwedekanaal. Here you can relax and enjoy the sun all day. In the summer months, SOIA is buzzing with activities and festivals, with stunning views of the iconic yellow bridge. Be careful though: swimming in the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal is forbidden.

Another popular spot in Utrecht is the Muntkade. Although not officially a city beach, it attracts many Utrechters looking to cool down during hot summer days. Swimming is allowed here, but always at your own risk. These locations offer Utrechters and visitors a wonderful urban beach experience, without having to leave the city.
