Kampong

SV Kampong, is more than just a club; it is a symbol of community and tradition. The term 'Kampong' has its roots in Malayalam, where it means 'a collection of dwellings visibly joined together by a fence'. This name was chosen more than a hundred years ago when the club was founded as a football and cricket club. The founders, living in the Zeehelden neighbourhood, were mostly former Indians. They affectionately called their neighbourhood 'the kampong', which inspired the name of the sports club.

Since its foundation in 1903, SV Kampong has grown into one of the most versatile sports clubs in the Netherlands, with activities ranging from hockey, football and cricket to badminton and tennis. This diversity makes Kampong unique in the Dutch sports landscape.

In hockey, Kampong has enjoyed particular success, with several national titles and strong performances in the European Hockey League. The club is proud of "de Klapperboom", a modern hockey stadium with a capacity of around 2,000 spectators, known for its excellent facilities and atmosphere.

SV Kampong is also known for its social events. "Té Dansant" on Sunday is one such event where members and fans come together in sports attire for a day of dancing, singing and socialising. This tradition highlights the lively and festive community atmosphere that is so characteristic of the club.

This makes SV Kampong not only a place for sporting achievements, but also a vibrant community that honours its historical roots and offers a wide range of activities for both competitive and recreational athletes.
