Largest bicycle parking lot in the world

Utrecht Central station houses one of the largest bicycle parking facilities in the world. The bicycle parking facility, which is underground, can accommodate 12,500 bicycles. The facility was built in 2007 to encourage more people to cycle to the station, as part of a larger plan to reduce car traffic and improve the overall sustainability of transport in the city.

The design of the bike shed is highly innovative and efficient, with a system of ramps and lifts allowing easy and quick access to the different levels of the shed. The bikes are stored vertically, saving space and allowing more bikes to be stored in the same space.

The bicycle parking facility at Utrecht Centraal is equipped with various security measures, including surveillance cameras and 24/7 security staff, to ensure that the bicycles are protected against theft and vandalism. The car park also has various facilities, such as bike parking, bike rental and a vending machine that distributes bike parts.

The car park is also known for its smart design and use of technology, including an automatic counting system and a smart bicycle parking system, which allows people to reserve their parking space online, as well as contactless payment systems.
