't Oude Pothuys

The walls around you are over 400 years old. Back in 1621, this wasn't a pub at all. It was a warehouse, a place where pots, pans, and cooking gear were stored for the neighbourhood. The name 't Oude Pothuys literally means "the old pot house," and that gritty, practical past is baked into every brick you see.

At some point the building became a brewery, which, honestly, feels like a natural upgrade. Then the Zuidwind brothers took over from their parents in 1981. They turned this ancient space into one of Utrecht's most beloved music venues. Not a glossy concert hall, just a proper pub with a small stage squeezed in and a crowd close enough to feel the bass in their chest.

Jazz, blues, rock, singer-songwriters, it all happens here on a regular basis. And look at the tables when you get inside. They're covered with the names of musicians who have played here, carved and written in over the years. That's the guest book nobody threw away.

Four centuries of storage, brewing, and now live music. Whatever this building becomes next, it probably won't be quiet.
