Ulu Mosque

The Ulu Mosque in Lombok is known as the largest mosque in the Netherlands. This imposing mosque, which opened its doors in October 2015, is an eye-catcher with its large dome and pencil-shaped minarets. The building, a mix of modern architecture and traditional Turkish influences, is easily spotted in the neighbourhood and from downtown, especially after sunset when the minarets are attractively lit in shades of green or turquoise.

Inside, the mosque is equally impressive, with a spacious prayer hall, several balconies and a richly decorated dome. The natural light entering the prayer hall adds to the serene and spiritual atmosphere.

A unique feature of the Ulu Mosque is the presence of a silence room, intended for people of all beliefs. This makes it unique of its kind worldwide. It also has the distinction of being located on Mosque Square, the first square in the Netherlands named after an Islamic place of worship.

The mosque is not only a place for prayer and reflection; it also opens its doors to visitors who want to learn more about Islam or the building's architecture. Open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays between 12:00 and 15:00, the mosque offers everyone a chance to take a look and experience the hospitality and culture of the Islamic community in Utrecht.
