Delete your ROODS account

This page explains how to delete your account for the ROODS app (“ROODS: Every Place Has a Story”), developed by Roods.io, and what happens to your data when you do.

How to request deletion

  1. Send an email to info@roods.io with the subject “Account deletion request”.
  2. Send it from the email address you registered with.
  3. We will delete your account and confirm by email. If we cannot tell that the request comes from the account holder, we may first ask you to confirm it.

We handle every request without undue delay, and within one month at the latest.

What is deleted

We permanently delete all personal data linked to your account:

  • Your name, email address, phone number and profile picture
  • Your date of birth, gender and nationality, if you provided them
  • Your password and any linked Google or Apple sign-in
  • Your language and notification preferences
  • Device identifiers and notification tokens
  • Your saved and completed stories and routes, and routes you created
  • Feedback and survey answers linked to your account

We also instruct the service providers that process data on our behalf to delete it. Our backups are kept for 24 hours, so your data disappears from them within a day of being deleted.

What is kept

  • If you bought a tour on our website, the purchase is recorded against your email address, not your account. We keep the records we need for our accounts for 7 years, as Dutch tax law requires, and use them for nothing else.
  • Anonymous, aggregated usage statistics that cannot be linked back to you.

Delete some data, keep your account

To have specific data deleted without deleting your account, email info@roods.io and tell us what you would like removed.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to have your personal data erased. If you are not satisfied with how we handle your request, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or the authority in your country. For more on how we handle your data, see our privacy policy.
