Musée National Eugène‑Delacroix is located in Saint‑Germain‑des‑Prés, in central Paris, where Eugène Delacroix lived, worked, and died in 1863. His former residence and studio now offer a unique insight into his life and art. The museum resulted from the efforts of 1920s artists such as Maurice Denis, Paul Signac, Édouard Vuillard, and Ker‑Xavier Roussel, who formed the Society of Friends of Eugène Delacroix and transformed his last home into a museum.

Opened in 1932, it became part of the Louvre in 2004. Inside, key works like Mary Magdalene in the Desert, The Education of the Virgin, Romeo and Juliet, and the fresco Bacchus with a Tiger are displayed, along with pieces such as Study of Bindings, Oriental Jacket, and Figures after Goya. The museum also houses sketches, prints, drawings, and portraits by friends like Henri Fantin‑Latour. Annual temporary exhibitions, lectures, concerts, workshops, and artist talks complement the permanent collection.

The garden offers a view of Delacroix’s studio façade and a peaceful moment of pause. Closed since September 19, 2023 for renovation, it reopens on March 27, 2024 with the exhibition Ingres and Delacroix. Artist objects. Visitors will soon experience a refreshed narrative positioning Delacroix’s legacy in context.
