Ever wonder why French cuisine is so celebrated around the world? Since the fourteenth century, France has been all about good food, style, and creativity at the table. Lavish banquets with artistically presented dishes shaped the culinary life of the elite and led to the world-renowned haute cuisine.

The Renaissance brought even more excitement, as exploration and the discovery of new ingredients like haricot beans from the Americas transformed French cooking. Catherine de’ Medici, who became queen in 1547, brought Italian influences and refined tableware, making dining ever more elegant and detailed. Through the centuries, top chefs left their mark on French food culture. François Pierre La Varenne, in the seventeenth century, wrote the first major cookbook with lighter sauces and refined pastries.

In the eighteenth century, Antonin Carême developed the famous ‘mother sauces’ and introduced multi-course dinners. In the nineteenth century, Escoffier organized the kitchen into specialized stations and created classics like peach Melba. Paul Bocuse launched a new revolution in the twentieth century: lighter, fresher dishes with the best ingredients, beautifully plated. French cuisine is always evolving, but at its core, it’s about enjoying good food with loved ones, pride in craftsmanship, and pure pleasure. French chefs continue to inspire the world, blending tradition with creativity and new trends.
